Meet Mary Lou
For nearly two decades, Mary Lou Makin has loved one simple part of being a nail technician.
Watching someone smile when they look down at their nails.
That moment of excitement has always reminded her why she chose this profession.
Today, Mary Lou has taken that passion far beyond beautiful nails. She now specializes in helping clients with difficult toenail conditions—giving them relief, confidence, and hope through restorative pedicure services.
Found the Confidence to Change Lives One Restorative Pedicure at a Times
Throughout her career, Mary Lou saw something missing.
Many people in her community struggled with thick, lifted, damaged, or painful toenails, yet very few professionals offered specialized restorative services.
She had seen firsthand the long-term consequences of neglected foot care and knew she wanted to make a difference.
"I wanted to offer a service that simply wasn't available in my area."
Helping people wasn't enough. She wanted to become the person they could trust when no one else had the answers.
Learning to Handle Every Challenge
Before enrolling in the STAR NT Certification, Mary Lou admits there was one thing holding her back.
She simply didn't know how to confidently handle many of the difficult toenail conditions clients presented.
Instead of guessing, she invested in education.
She had already spent years watching Lori Halloway's YouTube videos, so she knew exactly what kind of education to expect.
The STAR NT Certification gave her the structured knowledge and practical techniques she needed to finally work with confidence.
The First Transformations Were Personal
Only a few months after becoming STAR NT Certified, Mary Lou experienced something she never expected.
Her first major success story was her mom.
Using the techniques she learned through STAR NT, she successfully improved several of mom's toenails.
One thickened toenail.

Today, all three have dramatically improved.
