Trina Russell
“She has told me on several occasions that I’ve changed her life in more ways than I could ever imagine.”
For Trina, this is what advanced education is truly about. It is not simply learning how to use another tool or complete another service. It is gaining the ability to make clients feel heard, supported, and hopeful.
Visit Their BusinessMore Than 30 Years Behind the Nail Table—and Still Learning How to Change Lives
After more than 30 years in the nail industry, Trina Russell could have decided that her experience was enough. Instead, she chose to keep learning. As the owner of The Nail Shack in Mooresville, Indiana, Trina has always wanted to provide something her clients could not receive just anywhere. Her goal was never simply to complete a nail service. She wanted every person who sat in her chair to feel special, cared for, and more confident when they left. However, when clients began coming to her with thick, difficult, or uncomfortable toenails and other challenging foot-care concerns, Trina realized that experience alone did not give her all the answers she needed. “I wanted to learn so I could help others.”
Finding the Education She Had Been Missing
Before completing The Meticulous Manicurist’s advanced training, Trina’s greatest challenge was knowing what to do when she encountered problem feet. She wanted to help, but she had not been given enough practical education about how to safely approach difficult toenails, select the appropriate tools, and improve the cosmetic appearance of nails while remaining within the nail technician’s scope of practice. What impressed Trina most about the course was its transparency. “Nothing was hidden during the learning modules. Everything you needed to know was right there during the videos.” The lessons gave her information she could immediately apply at the nail table. One of her most valuable takeaways was learning how to select and use the correct electric-file bits when working on toenails. Her favorite tool is the diamond bit, which has become an important part of the detailed work she performs for her clients.
Clients Travel From Other States to See Her
Trina cannot place an exact number on how much her business has grown since completing the training, but the results are evident in the loyalty of her clients. People now travel from outside Indiana to receive services from her. One longtime client lived approximately 30 minutes from Trina’s salon before moving to Madison, Wisconsin. Despite the distance, she continues to make the trip back to see Trina about every six months. When the client first came to The Nail Shack, she was experiencing severe discomfort. Deformed toes, calluses, and corns made walking extremely difficult. After her first appointment, she left the salon feeling significantly more comfortable. “She has told me on several occasions that I’ve changed her life in more ways than I could ever imagine.” For Trina, this is what advanced education is truly about. It is not simply learning how to use another tool or complete another service. It is gaining the ability to make clients feel heard, supported, and hopeful.

Turning Personal Experience Into Compassion
Trina understands how vulnerable clients can feel when they are embarrassed by the appearance of their toenails.
Years ago, before she had the education she has today, Trina lost both of her large toenails and ultimately had them removed. That personal experience now allows her to connect with clients from a place of genuine understanding.
“Had I known then what I know now, I would have never had my toenails removed on my big toes.”
When a client arrives with thick or altered toenails, Trina reassures them that there is nothing to be ashamed of. She explains that, depending on the condition of the nail and what is appropriate within a nail technician’s scope, its cosmetic appearance may often be improved while the client follows an appropriate home-care routine.
Her clients do not receive judgment. They receive compassion, education, and realistic expectations.
“I always make sure I educate my clients when they are in my chair so that they have more knowledge walking out than they had when they walked in.”

Her Advice to Other Nail Technicians.
Trina believes this education is valuable even for nail technicians who do not plan to specialize in challenging toenail services.
Her story is proof that a successful career does not require a technician to stop learning after becoming licensed. Even after more than three decades in the industry, additional education gave Trina new techniques, greater confidence, and more ways to support the people who depend on her.
