When I started in the beauty industry I didn’t understand the importance of nail care during a pedicure. At least I thought I didn’t. I wanted to create beautiful nails and pay my bills. As I completed pedicure services for my clients they would remark statements like, “I’ve never had anyone clean my toenail like this.” I thought that was the strangest thing since a pedicure is supposed to be the trimming, shaping, cleaning, and beautifying the nails on the feet. I’ve come a very long way from the beginning days of sitting on the floor with a portable foot bath, performing services for clients who sat in the most uncomfortable client chairs ever made. But it seems I am still getting the same statements from client after client, even after 26 years in the nail industry.

I panicked the day my neurologist told me I needed to retire from the career that provided everything I have in this world. And thought if I could only teach other nail technicians all the efficient and effective skills I have learned, I could at least live vicariously through them. And clients all over would get the care they sought.

When clients started traveling from all over the United States to see me for pedicure services, I knew I had to develop training to share. I worked on the structure, content, and web design for 18 months. I wanted to make sure the training was easily accessible, easy to learn from anywhere, and easily applied through the practical application by the nail technician.

My training is different from any you will find because it is from real-life experience and a nail technician who still works in the salon taking clients. Not because I need to work, but because people are seeking help and can’t find it.

Module 1 Welcome

The welcome module will let you know what to expect and provide a course guide for you to fill out. The guide will provide information and resources for you to reference.

Module 2 Business Success Attributes

In this module you will learn how to form your business reputation. Become familiar with the physical, emotional and mental aspects of being a nail technician

Module 3 Consultation

In this module you will learn what questions to ask on the telephone to categories what service they need. Learn how to incorporate appropriate client greeting. Build your credibility. Build your confidence
learn the appropriate questions to ask during the service. Learn what conditions you are not able to work on and learn how to transition client at check out to pre booking next appointment.

Module 4 Tools Techniques Timing & Pricing

In this module you will learn the scope of the pedicure practice. Understand terms used for marketing such as medical pedicure and AMT. Understand glove use. Identify and understand the use for each tool. Learn how to use to tool appropriately to avoid injury to the client. Learn the order to perform the steps of each pedicure type to accomplish within given timeframe. Learn how to categorize each pedicure and price based on time. Understand glove use.

Module 5 Regular Pedicure Procedure

In this module you will lean how to utilize the stainless steel pedicure tools in necessary manipulative skills. Practice proper techniques to clean, shape, and beautify the toenails. Remove buildup from the bottom of the feet to prevent stubborn buildup and ensure comfort. Complete all pedicure skills and procedures most effectively and efficiently to ensure completion of service within 45 minutes. Apply the information and related material to a regular pedicure service for a successful outcome, that includes meeting client expectations.

Module 6 Customized Pedicure Procedure

In this course I will train you how to identify and clean around toenails that need more care and attention than a person who fits into the regular pedicure category. The client who fits into the customized category has nails that are often long and digging into their skin. They might think they have an ingrown toenail but most likely it is only impacted. This client goes too long in-between services and has an abundance of visible non living tissue that needs to be removed from around their nails and the bottom of their feet, but they do not need to have most of their nails thinned and they do not have nail fungus. You most likely will need to use your electric file to assist here and there during the service but nothing to the extent a specialized pedicure service requires.

Module 7 Specialty Pedicure Procedure

In this course I will train you how and when to use an electric file during a pedicure to contour thick nails utilizing the proper physics to avoid client injury. How to use appropriate bits and disinfection protocol between uses, how to use appropriate ergonomic body posture to prevent repetitive use injuries, Learn the different causes of nail fungus and how to recognize it in a clients nails. To assist you in forming a plan of action to improve the clients nails over a period of time. This is a 5.5 hour course it has section 7.1-7.2-7.3 and 7.4

Module 8 Ingrown Toenail Cleaning

In this course I will teach you how to identify an ingrown toenail. Explain the difference between an ingrown toenail and an impacted toenail causing discomfort. What questions to ask the client during the consultation to determine if you are going to provide service. How to clean around an ingrown toenail to relieve client pain and utilize proper physics and hand position of Meticulous Manicurist stainless steel implements to prevent future injury. Explain what is outside the scope of a nail technicians practice.

Module 9 Foot & Leg Massage

In this course you will learn the massage manipulations and how to incorporate them into the massage portion of a pedicure service. The benefits of massage during a pedicure. Questions to ask during the massage and contraindications.

Module 10 Electric File Training & Techniques

In this course I will teach you how to perform the movements necessary to remove the excess cuticle from the nail plate. Reduce the thickness of fungal toenails. Remove gel polish from the nail. How to choose the appropriate bit for each service. Identify the different types of bits. Identify the different material of bits and their uses. Define torque, rpm and tolerance. Operate in forward and reverse. Clean and store the bits properly after each use. Use appropriate pressure when using the electric file. Prevent heat buildup on the nail.

Module 11 Nail Polish Techniques

In this module I will teach you about aspect of nail polish you have never thought of including: alignment, balance, direction, pressure, angle, speed, thickness, amount, bristle span, and transference. With this information you will create nails that the polish will last for weeks on the nails and months on the toenails without chipping.

Module 12 Body Ergonomics

In this module I will teach you about Body ergonomics. Body Ergonomics is the last thing a new tech thinks about when starting in this industry. It takes time to build strength and stamina to get through long days. Providing service on other people is a very physical job. You might not think so because nail technicians sit when performing their services but the physical toll on a nail technicians joints is brutal. And if you don’t take care of your body you will be part of the 5 year burnout group of techs who couldn’t make it in the business because they couldn’t tolerate the physical downfalls.

Module 13 Salon Policies & Procedures

This module consists of a .pdf salon policies and procedures manual that I sell individually for $299 You can open edit and distribute to your employees or hang onto it if you aspire to be a salon owner one day!

Module 14 Building Your Business

In this module I teach you everything you need to know about building a clientele. As a new nail tech you have some choices to make. Like where are you going to work to be able to reach the maximum number of people in your community? You need to start looking for a salon to work in. What do you have to offer a salon? How are you going to stand out?

Module 15 Business Financials

In this module I teach you everything you need to know about choosing when to stay working in a salon and when to become self employed. I will provide worksheets you can open edit and print to keep track of your business income and expenses and how to track and pay your quarterly income taxes and more.

Module 16 Selling Retail

This module is about how to increase your income in the salon by offering your clients retail products they will use at home.

Module 17 Bonus Rules & Regulations

This module is a bonus module. I will teach you where to find the rules and regulations for your area to make sure you are following all the safety guidelines to work on the public. Not all areas of the world require licensing and some areas may not have rules and regulations. But we will cover the most important aspects of public safety, patron protection, disease control and sanitation.
